CIK FIA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP (Round 5) & ASIA-PACIFIC KF2 CHAMPIONSHIP
SUZUKA (JPN) NOVEMBER 12th/19th - 2011
DE VRIES E IAME CAMPIONI DEL MONDO
In the fifth and decisve round of the KF1 World Karting Championship, raced in Suzuka, Japan, Nyck De Vries on his Parilla powered kart are crowned as CIK-FIA World Champions for the second year in a row.
World Championship KF1
Nyck De Vries repeats himself, after the 2010 victory in Zuera and the four rounds befor this final event, he wins the World title on his Zanardi/Panirlla on the Suzuka circuit. The Dutchman lands in Japan with 18 points of advantage on the second driver of the overall standing, but the start ois not one of the best: after the first qualifying practice on Saturday, before Race 1, De Vries is only 14th and forced to run after the group. The Dutchman doesn't distort at all and with a great recovery, also with best lap, he finishes 5th right behind his direct opponent. The gap shortens, but yet from Race 2 La classifica si accorcia, ma già in Gara 2, even if not with a victory, the Dutchman driver finishes 3rd in front of all his direct opponents.
On Sunday's qualifying practice De Vries is extremely fast and gets the firs row for Race 3. De Vries, as strategy already adopted in the other two races of the week end, keeps an eye on the track and the other on his opponents and even if being again extremely fast, he stays satisfied with a 2nd place, letting an opponent not in chase for the title anymore pass. But it is in the final Race that the Dutchman wants to show who is the fastest and goes straight for victory with 6 tenths of advantage on the 2nd come. Nyck De Vries, Chiesa Corse and IAME are 2011 World Karting Champions.
There is also another driver, racing only in Suzuka and so not for the title, that anyway puts himself in the spotlight: Daiki Sasaki (Birel/Parilla). The Japanese driver is always among the fastest and except for Race 2, he is always in the leading positions. He starts 15th in Race 2 and with a good recovery he ends up with a good 8th place. After an un fortunate Race 2 setting the end of Saturday, the IAME powered Japanese is author of a great qualifying starting from the 5th place in Race 3. He confirms himself very fast closing in 6th position. He aims podium in Race 4 and confirming his constant improvements , he strikes it and fills the podium of the final round of the World Championship with the colours of IAME, that has then two drivers in the first three positions.
Asia-Pacific KF2 Championship
IAME is well represented by resident drivers and is protagonist also in the Asia Pacific Championship for KF that is raced in the same week end in Suzuka. A great week end forGrande weekend (even if with some regret in the end) for Shuhei Hayashi (Birel/Parilla) who dominates the heats and the pre final but misses the podium for final blink of an eye.
With two victories in the heats, he is the leader before the pre final. Not yet satisfied he also wins the pre final (he is second at the finish line but his direct opponent gets a 3 seconds penalty) and aims the victory of the Final for the Final title. In the final he fights as much as he can and despite being one of the fastest, he finishes 4th in front of Kenshiro Wada (Birel/Parilla), who also comes back very well from the 10th place.
